EGS are artificial reservoirs created underground in areas with hot rock, where fluid pathways are enhanced through safe drilling processes to increase connectivity. These pathways allow fluid to flow through the hot rock, bringing heat to the surface for electricity generation.

A geothermal power plant generating 140 megawatts, the world's largest single geothermal facility at the time of launch. Co-funded by the Kenyan Government, World Bank, European Investment Bank, and others at a cost of $126.5 million.

Kenya is seeking investors to fund and construct two geothermal power generation plants, each designed to produce 30 MW of electricity. Selected firms are expected to complete construction by end of 2015 and may enter power purchase agreements with Kenya Power.

GDC's major geothermal well drilling and development program at Menengai Crater Floor, with 43 wells sunk and 24 tested, yielding 165 MW of confirmed capacity.
