Source3 Energy X Inc. and Skeena Industrial Development Park (SIDP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work together on developing the Skeena Clean Hydrogen Hub. This production center will be designed for large-scale clean hydrogen and derivative fuel generation. The center itself will be located at the Skeena Industrial Development Park in Terrace, British Columbia.

Meeting increased demand for clean fuels.

The hydrogen that will be produced at the Skeena Clean Hydrogen Hub will be generated from renewable energy and other power sources. The sources used to produce the H2 are part of long-term efforts to meet the demand for clean fuels, a demand that steadily grows locally and globally. The goal is to use this clean fuel to transition from fossil fuels to zero-emission transport and industrial processes. Once the H2 hub is up and running, it is expected that up to 50,000 tons of clean hydrogen or downstream products like e-fuels, clean ammonia, or sustainable aviation fuels will be produced each year.

The hydrogen hub will help to establish a new major industry in the area.

According to SIDP manager Michael Pucci, the MoU with Source3X represents a significant opportunity to establish what would be a new major industry in the Northern BC area. Pucci added that the industry has plenty of room to expand, noting that since hydrogen is recognized as a clean source of power, it has the potential to decarbonize many other industries across the region.

Why Terrace BC?

What makes Terrace a particularly ideal location for the H2 hub is that in the Canada Pacific region, Terrace is a major hub for energy, road and rail transportation. Ayaz Khokhar, Source3X President and CEO sated that the hydrogen hub is a “critical first element of the clean energy cluster” the company is developing in Northern BC. Ayaz said Source3X anticipates long-term “exponential growth” in green hydrogen demand and its downstream products, both in Canada and around the world. Source3X develops clean energy projects and has several in the works across Canada, including British Columbia, Ontario, and Atlantic Canada. Among the company’s projects in BC are its gigawatt-scale clean power generation from wind turbines to meet the province’s growing electricity requirements, as well as a long-term ramp-up of clean hydrogen production at various sites in Northern BC.
